PROGRAMS
Program choices for school students include:
¨ Primary School - suitable for ages 5 to 11, Grades Prep to Year 6 with additional English Support
¨ High School - suitable for ages 12 to 18, Grades 7 to Year 12 and provides the necessary qualifications for tertiary study in Australia or abroad
¨ High School (Study Abroad) - suitable for students who want to spend 3 -12 months at a Queensland School to improve their English and learn about Australian Culture before returning home to continue their studies
¨ High School (Regional Study Abroad) suitable for students who want to spend 3 -12 months at a Queensland Regional School in unique natural surroundings to immerse themselves in Australian Culture before returning home to continue their studies
¨ Holiday Adventures – enables students already studying in Australia to participate in fully escorted 1-2 week vacation holiday tours to exciting destinations and Aussie icons throughout Australia
¨ International Baccalaureate (IB) suitable for students with high grades that want to complete a world recognised curriculum that results in them being awarded the Queensland Certificate of Education as well an IB Diploma.
STUDY LOCATIONS
Queensland Government Schools are located in many exciting locations throughout the state. Students can choose to study in modern sophisticated cities, relaxed countryside and coastal communities, close to national parks, rainforests, reefs, and some of the worlds most beautiful beaches.
SCHOOLS OF EXCELLENCE
Students may also enrol in a wide range of specialised subjects at selected schools that will help them develop their individual skills, talents and career including for example: Accounting, Aviation, Ballet, Engineering, Film, Golf. Languages, Maths, New media, Sciences, Soccer, Television or Tennis.
SUPPORT
Our Government understands the needs of international students and so provides special support mechanisms such as:
¨ Homestay accommodation at reasonable rates for high school level students in a safe and caring family environment where they will live and study
¨ 24 hr emergency assistance and multi-lingual support
¨ Access to expert in school guidance on pastoral matters, academic pathways, career options and personal well being
¨ Modern facilities and resources including: computer laboratories, video conferencing and recording, multimedia technology and commercial standard kitchens.
PREREQUISITES
Prerequisite qualifications to studying at a Queensland Government School include:
- Placement in a year equivalent to the level of education already achieved
- Students must have achieved a pass in their home country in all core subjects (including English)
- Students must provide evidence of either:
- Satisfactory results in an approved English Test (e.g. IELTS or TOEFL);
- Studies conducted in English for a minimum of two years; or
- Successful completion of an intensive English course e.g. High School Preparation
- A school sector student Visa (subclass 571)
- Medical cover from an approved OSHC provider for the duration of their Visa
- Submission of a completed EQI application form together with required supporting documentation.
SPECIALISED PROGRAMS
Students can also study EQI offshore programs in their own country to prepare them for future university study in Australia or across the globe. The two main programs are:
- Queensland Recognised School Program – the internationally recognised Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) provides pathways to gain Australian and overseas tertiary entrance.
- University Pathways - is a high quality university pathway program that provides the necessary training and preparation to successfully undertake university studies in Australia or other countries. Subjects are conducted in English and include: Business, Mathematics, Cultural Studies and Information Communication and Technology.
Group Study Tours range from a half a day to twelve weeks and can be tailored to suit the specific needs and focus of each group e.g. English Lessons, Educational and Themed Excursions, Global Leadership, Science, Excellence in sports and creative industries. The tours provide a unique opportunity for students to gain an invaluable insight into studying in Queensland, Australian Culture and staying in a host family.
Professional Visit Programs are a highly customised combination of seminars, site visits and training at Queensland Government Schools for groups of overseas officials and teaching professionals on a fee for service basis. Visiting delegates will develop an extensive network of teachers and government officials within the Queensland Education Sector.
